Sacred Preparation & Dieta
The Dieta is designed to support the mind, body, and nervous system through intentional preparation, nourishment, restoration, and conscious reconnection prior to and following retreat experiences.

At Bufo Healing Sanctuary, we believe preparation and integration are essential parts of the sacred medicine journey. The Dieta is designed to help support the body, calm the nervous system, clear energetic distractions, and prepare the mind, body, and spirit for deeper healing and transformation. We recommend beginning preparation approximately 7–14 days prior to ceremony by minimizing or avoiding red meat, pork, processed or fried foods, excess sugar, caffeine and stimulants, dairy, alcohol, and recreational substances. Instead, focus on nourishing the body with organic fruits and vegetables, light grains such as quinoa or brown rice, herbal teas, and clean filtered water. The intention is not perfection, but conscious preparation and care for the body. We also encourage reducing overstimulation prior to ceremony by limiting excessive screen time, violent or emotionally charged media, social media scrolling, news consumption, and external drama. Creating space for stillness through nature, silence, meditation, prayer, breathwork, and journaling may help support emotional and energetic preparation leading into ceremony. Sacred medicine often amplifies what is ready to be seen, felt, healed, and released, so participants are encouraged to begin reflecting on intentions, emotions, fears, desires, and areas where healing or clarity may be needed. Helpful practices may include mindfulness, gentle movement, stretching, prayer, breathwork, and energetic cleansing with sage, palo santo, sound, or intentional spiritual practices. The day before ceremony, we recommend eating lightly, hydrating well, resting early, limiting overstimulation, and setting clear intentions for your journey. Many participants choose fruits, broth, or herbal tea and avoid heavy meals approximately 2–4 hours prior to ceremony unless otherwise guided. After ceremony, integration becomes an important part of the healing process. To help support grounding, nervous system balance, and emotional integration, we recommend continuing to nourish the body with clean, wholesome foods while avoiding overly processed or dense meals when possible. Gentle rest, time in nature, journaling, prayer, meditation, salt baths, breathwork, and other soul-nourishing practices may help support the integration process. We also encourage limiting overstimulation from media and external stressors while allowing space for emotional release, reflection, and embodiment of insights received during ceremony. For several days following ceremony, avoid overheating the body through hot saunas, excessive heat exposure, or intense physical exertion, and remain properly hydrated while avoiding excessive water consumption. Participants are also encouraged to take advantage of their two complimentary integration sessions for continued support and guidance. For the safety and integrity of the ceremonial container, Bufo Healing Sanctuary does not allow recreational drugs or alcohol on the premises.
